El verbo to assist significa ‘ayudar, prestar asistencia, colaborar o secundar’, además de ‘fomentar o estimular’, según el contexto.
- They sent a representative to Paris to assist in the negotiations. (Enviaron a un representante a París para ayudar en las negociaciones.)
- Doctors should assist smokers. (Los médicos deberían ayudar a los fumadores.)
No se debe traducir nunca por asistir, que en inglés se diría to attend.
- Nadie asistió a la reunión. (Nobody attended the meeting.)
